 THE
VOODOO BANSHEE GRAPHICS ACCELERATOR
I recently purchased a VooDoo Banshee video card. I must admit it's quite a
formidable video card. Although I love the Banshee now, I did encounter some problems at
first. Luckily, the problems were all driver related. My video would jump around quite a
bit almost, as if my hard drive was was swapping out files. Approximately every five
seconds or so, my picture would freeze for a split second. As a devoted VooDoo 2 user up
to this point, I was very disappointed at the performance of the card initially. I tried
numerous graphics settings in a number of different games to no evail.. Remembering the
slight increase in speed and picture quality I received with the V2 drivers from 3dfx , I figured what the hell, lets try their reference
drivers for the Banshee. After downloading the files I eagerly installed them on my
system(this will involve forcing the driver installation in Windows,for more information
on forcing the installation see the V2 fix page). WOW, I couldn't believe the difference
in performance. The jumpy video was gone, the colors were better as well as the GAMMA
correction and frame rates increased about 10%. The Banshee is almost on the
graphical equal to the VooDoo 2 falling short to the V2 in color depth which it made up
for in FPS. This card is fantastic for non Pentium2 PC's but only if the right drivers are
used.
